On what the business is calling “90/90” day—September 4th, to the rest of us—Volvo will unveil the redesigned XC90 crossover. In addition, the day “marks a big moment in the launch of the EX90,” which explains the second “90.” The mysterious teaser Volvo included at the conclusion of its presentation, implying that “there might be a surprise or two… ” in store for us too, is far more intriguing, though. Okay, that’s it.
An equally enigmatic teaser image that seems to show the hoods of the XC90 (bottom/left) and EX90 (top/right) was released alongside the announcement. Other from the distinctive hood creases and a few headlamp elements, not much is visible here. Based on what we can see, the “Thor’s Hammer” LED signature will look different on the upgraded XC90. Everything else is just conjecture. Although Volvo hasn’t yet announced the XC90’s demise, we anticipate that this will be the final significant update before it is superseded by its all-electric brother. Ever since Volvo debuted the EX90 in 2022, the writing has been on the wall.
What about the unexpected things from Volvo? It’s hard to say exactly what to anticipate. Volvo is unlikely to be in a position to announce any significant new vehicle releases for the U.S. market given that the EX30 launch has taken far longer than anticipated. The potential of certain Polestar Engineered versions of current models cannot be completely ruled out; Volvo has already shown that it is willing to provide them on crossovers, so why stop now? Either way, we’re only looking at a week or so. Additionally, Volvo’s 90/90 Day webpage will allow you to watch the entire event live.
