Having visited Amsterdam on my first backpacking trip through Europe in 2006, and since then, on numerous occasions, I have returned to explore all the nooks and crannies of this stunning multicultural city, Amsterdam will always have a special place in my heart as one of my favorite cities in the world.
There’s a ton of stuff to see and do here, including amazing parks, superb cafes, world-class art museums, attractive canals, and a fascinating history.
Furthermore, your hotel pick can make or ruin your trip, regardless of what you came to see or do. These are my top picks for hotels in Amsterdam, all of which are situated in fantastic areas for visitors to enjoy:
1. Hotel Rho:
Right on Dam Square, Hotel Rho is situated on the very edge of the De Wallen area, which is home to the oldest church in Amsterdam, a hipster craft brewery, lots of hipster cafes and eateries, and of course, the well-known Red Light District. In a stunning former theater designed in the Art Deco style, this hotel offers straightforward but cozy rooms. The rooms are quite roomy considering their location, offer enough of natural light, and have strong shower pressure. You’ll have a restful night’s sleep even though the furnishings are a little antiquated! In addition to free coffee and tea in the lobby, there’s a comprehensive breakfast buffet. Its pricing and strategic location are unbeatable.
2. Park Plaza Victoria
Nestled in a 19th-century neo-Classical edifice, this hotel offers great views of the city and is situated in the Centraal/Centrum neighborhood, directly across the street from Centraal Station. The rooms are designed in a highly contemporary and fashionable manner and have comfortable beds, good natural light, desks, and chic bathrooms. The accommodations feature walk-in showers, Egyptian linens, coffee and tea in the room, and an indoor pool, sauna, and gym. There’s a chic restaurant downstairs that serves foreign and Dutch fare. I adore coming here to stay. You get a lot of value for your money.
3. Max Brown Museum Square
For a mid-range hotel in Amsterdam’s Museum District, Max Brown elevates the game. The rooms provide plenty of light, warm bedding, comfortable beds, desks, and strong water pressure in the showers. Although the rooms are a little on the smaller side, you may still sleep soundly here! This highly bike-friendly city can be conveniently explored with bike rentals, and the hotel’s exquisitely furnished café receives daily bread deliveries from nearby bakers. The hotel bar is also open around-the-clock.
4. Hotel La Bohème
I enjoy this neighborhood, which is part of Leidseplein, because it is directly across from the enormous Vondelpark. There is enough to do here, but the area is considerably quieter and calmer than the Red Light District because it lacks the people. This hotel offers straightforward, yet tidy, comfortable rooms in a cozy setting, complete with a hotel cat and a board game-filled bar. The rooms are well-lit and decorated in a highly contemporary style. When making a reservation, keep in mind that while all other rooms have private facilities, single rooms have common bathrooms. The personnel is incredibly kind and always willing to assist you.
5. Sir Albert
On the outskirts of De Pijp, a trendy district that borders the Museum Quarter (one of my favorite places of town), sits this chic hotel. All of Sir Albert’s rooms include large windows and tall ceilings; the upgraded suites on the top floor even feature cathedral ceilings. I adore the spacious showers with great water pressure and the luxurious bedding. Japanese tavern meal is served at a superb izakaya on-site. In addition, there is a neighboring gym with free access for guests, spin classes, and on-site bike rentals at the hotel.
6. Hotel Okura
This five-star, high-rise hotel is also in De Pijp; it’s near to a canal and has amazing city views. The lavish, roomy bathrooms feature large bathtubs and rainfall showers, and the lavish furnishings and bedding are exceptionally soft. A wellness center featuring a spa and a gym, together with an indoor pool and two Michelin-starred gourmet restaurants, are all located on the premises. Among the best hotels in the city is this one. Stay here if you want luxury!
7. Bed & Breakfast WestViolet
My second favorite area in the city is Jordaan, right after De Pijp. It’s a busy neighborhood, full of chic boutiques, classy restaurants, casual cafés, and lively bars. Located on a quiet street in the center of Jordaan, this charming bed and breakfast has a resident cat. If you wish to cook for yourself, there’s a guest kitchen with supplies, and breakfast is included. The spacious, uncomplicated rooms have desks. It’s good that there is a lot of natural light as well. It’s my favorite place in town—cozy and very welcoming owners.
8. Conservatorium Hotel
The height of Dutch luxury is this former conservatory housed in a massive neo-Gothic structure. The 129 rooms have luxurious mattresses, rain showers, gorgeous oak flooring, and lovely views of the surrounding area. Free bike rentals, a yoga studio, and an award-winning spa featuring a cutting-edge indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, hammam, and massages are also available. There’s a restaurant, bar, and lounge, among other dining options. It’s the most luxurious lodging option in the Museum District.
Even though it might get congested in the summer, Amsterdam is a must-visit location for anybody visiting Europe. And regardless of your requirements or price range, there are a ton of excellent, reasonably priced hotels to select from. You won’t regret choosing one of the hotels on this list for your upcoming visit.
