Bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the world, and I lived there for two years. It’s well-known for its busy streets, welcoming locals, inexpensive and tasty street cuisine, and exciting nightlife. It simply exudes an infectious enthusiasm that is unmatched. I never, ever grow weary of visiting this place.
The capital of Thailand is a massive city home to eight million people. Bangkok is a hugely diverse city with a plethora of things to see and do. First-time tourists may find it difficult to decide where to stay, as the city is well-connected by public transit.
Since I moved to the city in 2005, I have stayed in countless hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. There are thousands of options available. Here is my selection of Bangkok’s top hotels to assist you in making your plans:
1. Hotel Lotus Sukhumvit 33 in Bangkok
This four-star hotel is situated in the heart of Sukhumvit, a popular district with lots of dining options, shopping, and entertainment. It is in the heart of many things, including the Skytrain. The rooms are large, tidy, and furnished with flat-screen TVs, workstations, electric kettles, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, despite the hotel’s somewhat archaic appearance. With floor to ceiling windows letting in plenty of natural light, the mattresses are firm and furnished with luxurious bedding. There are even tiny seating sections in several rooms.
A respectable fitness center with a sauna, a spa, and a rooftop pool are among the hotel’s amenities. Additionally, there’s an on-site restaurant offering breakfast and Thai and foreign cuisine. All in all, I think this hotel is great and a great deal for its handy location.
2. Phraya Jasaen House
Within a group of seven historic antique shophouses sits this three-star hotel. The stores underwent renovations to become a 32-room boutique hotel featuring an eclectic industrial design with softer wooden accents set against brushed concrete walls. Ten various types of rooms are available, including shared bathrooms and kitchenettes for singles on a budget who prefer privacy over dorms. Depending on the accommodation type you select, facilities and room size will vary, but all offer free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a flat-screen TV.
Additionally, there is a restaurant with a delectable breakfast and a small spa on the premises. They also provide a great bonus: you are welcome to use a complimentary room to shower after checking out in preparation for a late-night trip. All things considered, this is a cozy and reasonably priced location to stay in Sathorn, the bustling core business district of Bangkok.
3. Prince Theatre Heritage Stay
At the movie bar of the Prince Theatre Heritage Stay hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, tables and comfortable chairs are arranged in front of a stage. This 100-year-old, four-star hotel has a theater motif. With gorgeous hardwood flooring throughout and movie star paintings and portraits on the walls, the quaint interior design is reminiscent of a movie theater. Here you can choose to sleep in a dorm bed or a suite. The spacious suites provide an abundance of natural light, a kitchenette, a sitting area, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and rainfall showers. The beds in the dorms are designed like capsules, and each one has a locker, outlets, reading lights, and privacy curtains.
Thai food, excellent drinks, and breakfast are all served at the on-site restaurant, Box Office Bar & Cinema. There’s even an evening screening of classic movies. This is a hip and distinctive location to stay in Silom, a neighborhood well-known with its exciting nightlife and excellent dining options.
4. Khaosan D&D Inn
On Khao San Road, D&D Inn is a landmark that has been there for ages. The fact that there are always rooms available makes it ideal for people with last-minute travel arrangements. And the front desk is open around-the-clock. The recently refurbished rooms have wooden interiors and floors, decorated in a modern Thai style. They also feature air conditioning, mini fridges, TVs with flatscreens, and excellent shower pressure in their en suite bathrooms. If you value having a window, make sure to reserve or request one as not all rooms have them.
There is a rooftop pool with its own bar and a downstairs bar that is frequently frequented by tourists. For breakfast, visit the hotel’s affiliated “Greens and Cheese” restaurant, which is located directly across the street. If you’re looking for a private room in the center of Khao San Road, this is an excellent spot to stay. Just be aware that there is nighttime partying on the street, so this isn’t the quietest location to stay.
5. Bangkok Ratchathewi Quarter
The Quarter refers to itself as a “poshtel,” which combines the coziness of a hostel with all the conveniences of home. It combines traditional Thai elements with modern aesthetics, creating an airy and light space. Thanks to its huge windows, the rooms at this three-star hotel are bright and tidy. Dorms and private rooms with en suite toilets are available.
Every dorm bed features built-in lockers, plugs, USB ports, and privacy curtains. There are other communal spaces to hang out in, such as a 20-person co-working room and a rooftop patio with a pool. Every morning there’s a complimentary continental breakfast. All things considered, this is a handy location to stay in Pratunam, with access to BTS Skytrain and Airport Rail Link stations only a minute and ten minutes away, respectively.
6. Park Hyatt
One of the best five-star hotels in the city, it is housed in the famous Central Embassy building. With its high ceilings, modern architecture, and carefully chosen pieces of art by both domestic and foreign artists, the foyer is remarkable.
Rich highlights contrast with muted earthy tones in the minimalist modern decor of the spacious guest rooms and suites. Each room features desks, minibars, luxurious linen, marble bathrooms with soaking tubs and bidets, and floor to ceiling windows with expansive city views.
The hotel features a Michelin-starred Catalan restaurant, a chic breakfast café, a sophisticated whiskey bar, and an incredible rooftop cocktail bar and restaurant. Additionally, there’s a lovely infinity pool on the rooftop, encircled by dense vegetation (arrive early, as the sun doesn’t strike it until approximately 1pm).
The Park Hyatt in Bangkok has great redemption choices if you’re looking to utilize your points for lodging (25,000 points per night). Whenever I want to treat myself and use all my hotel points, I stay here.
7. Bangkok Aloft Sukhumvit 11
This is the city’s best-value luxury hotel, in my opinion. This four-star hotel features modern, roomy rooms with high ceilings and lots of natural light coming in via the huge windows. The spacious marble bathrooms in the rooms have wonderful walk-in showers, plush pillowtop mattresses, desks, mini-fridges, and coffee/tea makers. There’s a lot going on here in addition to the great rooms. There’s also an excellent breakfast buffet. Although the fitness facility is enormous, the rooftop pool with loungers and cabanas offering breathtaking views of the expansive cityscape is the true winner. I practically always stay here while I’m in town because it’s close to a ton of restaurants, bars, and things to do.
The city of Bangkok is multifaceted. Many visitors pass through this city in a few days before moving on to other parts of Thailand, but I believe it merits longer attention. Securing a room at any of the hotels listed above will guarantee you a comfortable stay throughout your exploration of this fascinatingly turbulent city.
