Most visitors to Australia begin their journey in Sydney. It is the largest city in the nation, home to about 20% of the total population, and it is known for its amazing beaches, exciting nightlife, and plenty of museums and art galleries.
Since I started going there in 2007, every time I go, I have a great time. I can’t get enough of Sydney’s beauty, especially the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Although there is a lot to do in the city, it is a little dispersed. This implies that choosing a suitable place to stay is crucial.
I have stayed at a great deal of hotels over the years. The city has a lot to offer, so choosing just one can be difficult. Here is my selection of Sydney’s top hotels:
1. Mercantile Hotel
This three-star hotel is situated in the renowned Rocks area and is only five minutes’ walk from the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The fact that it is home to Australia’s oldest Irish pub, where you can regularly enjoy live music with your pint, is something I particularly admire about it.
This is a mid-range hotel with straightforward, utilitarian rooms. The mattresses are comfy and the rooms are spacious, but it’s not really artistic or distinctive. Each room has air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a coffee/tea maker. Despite their tiny size, the restrooms are kept up nicely and are in good working order. There are plenty of options close by, however breakfast is not offered. You still get fantastic pricing, but location is prioritized above amenities here. It’s the most affordable location to stay in The Rocks.
2. Coogee Bay Boutique Hotel
Located in the beachside district of Coogee Bay, southeast of the city, is an airy four-star hotel. I adore that it only takes two minutes to walk from the hotel to the beach. This hotel features large, light-filled rooms with beachy décor and colors. The rooms also feature minibars, coffee/tea makers, desks, and flatscreen TVs. The bathrooms are spacious as well, and the showers offer strong water pressure.
In addition to a sports bar and cocktail bar decorated in the art deco style, the hotel offers breakfast at its beachside bar and grill. There is also private parking available if you drive (which is uncommon in the city). This hotel is ideal for those seeking a more tranquil and stress-free stay.
3. Crystalbrook Albion
This five-star luxury hotel in Surry Hills is housed in a stunning brick heritage structure that was formerly a convent, just south of the city center. The home has a sophisticated style that draws influence from the 1920s and the 1970s. The outcome is stylish and eclectic. The vibrant artwork around the lobby, lounge, and hallways is something I really enjoy.
Although every room is different, they are all spacious, light-filled, and well-ventilated. In addition to huge, comfortable beds, the rooms feature desks, coffee/tea makers, flat-screen TVs, and luxurious bathrobes. Together with huge rain showers and boutique design elements like vibrantly tiled walls, the bathrooms are roomy and light. There’s also a nice rooftop deck, and every morning’s breakfast is packed with freshly baked pastries. This is a really chic and elegant hotel, which is great if you want to splurge.
4. Glasgow Arms Hotel
This hotel is situated above a lovely, historic tavern. Although it lacks style and has somewhat of an outdated architecture, the hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast every morning and is conveniently located within a five-minute walk from Darling Harbour. It’s more of a laid-back spot to crash, with great pub food and personnel who go above and beyond to make you feel at home.
Despite their lack of size, the rooms are well-lit and filled with natural light. Each has a desk, a flat-screen TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Despite being somewhat tiny, the bathrooms include lovely showers with excellent water pressure. This is an excellent option for budget-conscious and straightforward vacationers because everything is tidy and cozy.
5. The Darling at The Star
This enormous five-star hotel has more than 20 bars and restaurants, a spa, and a casino. Not only is there a heated outdoor swimming pool (complete with its own bar), but I also particularly like that they have Turkish baths. There aren’t many alternatives for breakfast, but what is available is excellent. If you drive, the hotel also offers a valet parking service. All in all, the ambiance is closer to a resort than a typical hotel.
The rooms are roomy and bright with an abundance of natural light. Aside from their many amenities, which include workstations, minibars, comfy bathrobes, flatscreen TVs, and Egyptian cotton linens, they also boast a sleek, contemporary style. The bathrooms contain large bathtubs and marble accents, and they are extremely light and airy. This hotel is ideal if you’re looking for luxury in the center of the city.
6. Hotel Bondi
This three-star boutique hotel offers expansive views over the well-known Bondi Beach from both its individual and shared balconies. Everything is contemporary, and the style is straightforward and understated. All you need is provided in the spacious, well-lit rooms, which also have a desk, TV, coffee/tea maker, and WiFi. Though there is an on-site restaurant, deluxe rooms with kitchenettes are also available for those who want to prepare their own meals.
Although the hotel itself isn’t very noteworthy, the value for the area is excellent. Bondi Beach is, after all, just across the street!
7. Sydney Potts Point
This four-star apartment hotel is five minutes from Kings Cross’s lively nightlife and features a rooftop terrace overlooking the city. For those who prefer to cook outside, there are BBQ facilities on the rooftop in addition to kitchenettes in the majority of the rooms. The rooms include a desk, refrigerator, flat-screen TV, and coffee/tea maker as amenities. The mattresses on the beds are thick and quite comfortable. Although the bathrooms are somewhat tiny, the rooms are quite spacious and light-filled. Breakfast is not provided, however you may easily make your own food in the kitchenette.
Although it’s not an ostentatious establishment, all the furnishings are kept up to date, and each room has some artwork. This place feels clean and modern, which I enjoy.
What a fun city Sydney is. Every time I come here, I have a great time. Even though it’s a big city, staying in one of the hotels above will put you in a good location to visit the attractions and get the most out of your vacation.
